The
Friendship Bridge (GPS: 5.83905, 101.89263) is a bridge across Sungai Golok between Malaysia and Thailand. It links
Bukit Bunga in Jeli, Kelantan with Bukit Tal (written Buketa in Thailand) in Weng district, Narathiwat province in Thailand. The bridge is 120 meters long and was completed in 2007. It compliments the existing land crossing at
Rantau Panjang and the ferry crossing at
Pengkalan Kubor.
The Friendship Bridge was originally called Harmonious Bridge, or Jambatan Muhibah, because it replaces an earlier Jambatan Muhibah which connected Rantau Panjang with Golok which was opened then prime minister Tun Abdul Razak bin Hussein on 21 May, 1973.
The present bridge was renamed Friendship Bridge when current prime minister, Dato' Seri Najib Tun Razak, who is the son of the late Tun Abdul Razak, officiated the bridge along with his Thai counterpart, Abhisit Vejjajiva. The name Friendship Bridge recalls the name of another bridge, between Thailand and Laos, also known as Friendship Bridge.
