Wat Cheng Buddhavas, Tumpat (30 April, 2017)
Wat Cheng Buddhavas (GPS: 6.18202, 102.16945) is a Thai Buddhist temple in
Jajahan Tumpat, Kelantan. It is located in Kampung Terbok, just next door to Wat Phikulthong. The temple covers a wide area which is walled up. It is part of a Thai village called Ban Bomet.
Wat Cheng Buddhavas reflects the eclectic nature of Thai Buddhism, which often shows a liberal mixture of Theravada Buddhism with folk religion. For example, the temple has a pavilion shrine with the statues of the Tua Pek Kong and the Thai Sung Lau Kun. Under a tree, there is also a gilded statue of the Hindu deity Ganesha.
Within the compound of Wat Cheng Buddhavas is a holy well called Telaga Nammon. During my visit, I saw on the notice board that they are collecting funds for the restoration of this well.
