KLIA Ekspres is a non-stop high-speed train service connecting the Kuala Lumpur International Airport to KL Sentral Railway Station. The service was launched on 14 April, 2002. Originally serving two station, KLIA Ekspres today serves three stations when the line was extended to the new KLIA2 low-cost carrier terminal on 1 May 2013. The KLIA Ekspres trains can achieve a top speed of 175 kph and can cover the 57-km distance between KLIA and KL Sentral in 28 minutes. The trains run on 1435 mm Standard gauge using the four-car Desiro ET 425 M Electric Multiple Unit rolling stock from Siemens AG. There are eight sets of KLIA Express trains in service.

At KL Sentral, tickets for the KLIA Ekspres can be purchased at the KL City Air Terminal.

The fare for a journey from KL Sentral to KLIA or KLIA2 is RM35 for a one-way journey and double that for a return trip. The fare is the same whether you are going to/or from KLIA or KLIA 2. If you have to travel between KLIA and KLIA2, you can purchase a RM1 ticket for that short journey.

The KL Ekspres ticket, once purchased, is valid for up to three months, so passengers may buy the tickets for a future ride. At the KL City Air Terminal, passengers on Malaysia Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Emirates Airlines, Etihad Airways and Royal Brunei Airlines may also check in their luggage on boarding the KL Ekspres (this is not available to those opting to take the KLIA transit). The train stops at KLIA and then proceed to KLIA2.

Frequent travellers can purchase the EasyCard. For ten trips, they get 1 trip for free. The EasyCard is available at RM350 and is valid for one year.

Fare

The fare for the KLIA Express is RM55.00 each way as of 1 January, 2016.

About this website

Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.

While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
