Arriving in Kuala Lumpur from the south (3 May, 2009)

If you are driving to Kuala Lumpur from one of the southern states such as Negeri Sembilan, Malacca, Johor, or even from Singapore, you will most likely be using the
North-South Expressway Southern Route (E2). The journey is pretty straightforward until you approach
Kuala Lumpur.
After the Sungai Besi Toll Plaza, the expressway becomes the
Kuala Lumpur-Seremban Expressway (E37), so don't get confused. In any case, you don't always see the names of the expressway names signaged. More likely you will only see the expressway number, which may be confusing as some expressways have branches that all carry the same number. If your purpose is to reach downtown Kuala Lumpur, just keep going straight on, ignoring all the exits.
After the toll plaza you will pass a number of interchanges to (a) Lebuhraya Bukit Jalil, (b)
Shah Alam Expressway (aka KESAS Highway, signaged E5), the
Besraya Highway (E9), the
New Pantai Expressway (aka NPE, signaged E10) and the
East-West Link Expressway.
After you pass the interchange for the East-West Link Expressway, you approach the toll plaza for the
SMART Tunnel (E38). By keeping right, you can take the SMART Tunnel to various parts of downtown Kuala Lumpur such as Jalan Tun Razak and Jalan Sultan Ismail. That is, if it isn't raining heavily and the tunnel is open to motorists. It costs RM2 (as of March 2015) to use the tunnel, so you may opt to continue on Jalan Sungai Besi, the main road.
