Church of St Anthony (GPS: 3.1437, 101.70355) is a parish church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Kuala Lumpur. The church is located on Jalan Robertson, a minor road off Jalan Pudu. It was built for the Tamil-speaking Catholics in the city, and today offers mass in Tamil, English and Bahasa Malaysia.
The history of the Church of St Anthony goes back to 1883. It was established by missionaries from the Paris Foreign Missions Society. Seeing that there was a need to cater to the Tamil-speaking Catholics, the missionaries began to seek a suitable location and source of funding to erect a church building. In the beginning, although some funds were received from various sources, the commmunity could not afford to build the church.
Eventually a site was acquired, and the foundation stone for the Church of St Anthony laid on 2 February, 1913. The opening and blessing of the church was carried out on 21 September of that year. Father Louis Duvelle was given the honour of blessing the church, even though by then he had transferred to Penang, in recognition of the role he played in getting the church built.
Missionaries from the Church of St Anthony was instrumental in the founding of the Church of St Jude in Rawang in 1955.

Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.
While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
