Departing in Kuala Lumpur by Flight

Departure Hall, KLIADeparture Hall, KLIA (22 February, 2006)

Going to KLIA from Kuala Lumpur

Departing Kuala Lumpur by flight is quite straightforward. Again, you have to determine whether you will be flying off from Kuala Lumpur International Airport or from Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport . If you are flying off from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, find out whether you will be departing from the main airport or from the low cost carrier terminal (LCCT). If you are taking AirAsia, Tiger Airways or Cebu Pacific, you will be using the LCCT, otherwise, you will be flying off from the main terminal.

Without someone taking you to the airport, your options are to take the high-speed train, the limousine bus, or the taxi. Most of these transportation options leave for KLIA from KL Sentral, the city's transportation hub. In addition, you can also catch the bus from Kota Raya and Pudu Raya.

By high-speed train

You have the option of taking the KLIA Express and the KLIA Transit. Both are similar trains, with the only difference being KLIA Transit makes more stops while KLIA Express links KL Sentral to KLIA direct. If you are taking the these trains to KLIA, you can use the Kuala Lumpur City Air Terminal at KL Sentral to check-in your baggage. This service is available if you are flying by Malaysia Airlines, and a number of other airlines including Emirates, Cathay Pacific and Royal Brunei Airlines, and is in the process to being rolled out on other airlines. Find out from your airlines whether this service is available.

KLIA Ekspres trains run from 5am to 12 midnight. There is one train every 15 minutes between 5am and 9am, and between 4pm and 10pm; while trains run every 20 minutes outside those hours. The cost of a one-way ticket is RM35. KLIA Transit trains run every half hour from 5.33am to 12.03am. Cost is RM35 for both trains.

Airport Coach runs a one hourly express bus between KL Sentral and KLIA from 5am to 10.30pm from Sentral, and 6.30am to 12.30am from KLIA. RM10 one way, or RM18 return.

By bus

The Star Shuttle bus runs from KLIA to Kota Raya and Pudu Raya. It only costs RM10 one way.

Low Cost Carrier Terminal, KLIA (14 January 2010)

Going to the Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) from Kuala Lumpur

If you are taking the KLIA Ekspres or KLIA Transit, you will arrive at the Main Terminal Building. From there, you need to catch a shuttle bus to the LCCT. The journey is 20 km around the airport, takes about 20 minutes, and costs RM1.50. It may be more convenient to go direct to LCCT from Kuala Lumpur by bus. You have the following choices:

SkyBus runs direct services every half hour or so from KL Sentral to the LCCT. RM9 one-way. Aerobus also runs direct bus services every half hour from KL Sentral to the LCC Terminal. RM8 one-way, free return journey. Star Shuttle (Tel: +60-3-40438811) has direct buses to the Pekeliling Bus Terminal and Batu 3 Jalan Ipoh in Kuala Lumpur, as well as direct connections to the Subang Jaya KTM Komuter station and the PKNS Building in Shah Alam. Check its website for schedules. Fares are RM9 per trip.

Departing from Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport

Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport's Terminal 3, now refurbished and renamed Subang Skypark, receives passenter flights from Berjaya Air and Firefly. VistaJet also uses it for business flights. The airport is located some 25 km from the city centre. Unlike KLIA, it has fewer transport options. You best bet, if you happen to fly out from there, is to simply take a taxi.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
