Gombak River is a major river in the Klang Valley. The river has its source somewhere in
Selangor, and flows down to Kuala Lumpur, where it flows into the
Klang River at the famous confluence marked by the
Jamek Mosque of Kuala Lumpur. The river was formerly known as Sungai Lumpur, meaning "muddy river", and thus can be said to have given the capital its name, for its confluence would be "Kuala Lumpur", meaning "muddy confluence" or "muddy estuary".
To get to know the Gombak River, I traced its route from its confluence with the Klang River all the way until it disappears from the map, somewhere beside the
Karak Expressway. Through its course, the Gombak River flows underneath three major roads namely
Jalan Tun Razak, the
DUKE Expressway and the Middle Ring Road 2.
