Harrods Square (GPS: 3.14976, 101.71449) is a future development site on
Jalan Raja Chulan, in
Kuala Lumpur. In 2012, the site at the junction between Jalan Raja Chulan and Jalan Conlay was planned for a 7-star hotel to be known as Harrods Hotel. It was to be the first Harrods Hotel in the world, and initially Kuala Lumpur was intended to be the site. The development was to be a tripartite joint venture between Qatar Holding LLC, Tan Sri Desmond Lim Siew Choon (who developed
Pavilion Kuala Lumpur across the road) and Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Albukhary of Tradewinds Corp Berhad.
A few years passed without seeing any development materializing on the 5.48-acre site. It appeared that Harrods Hotel may be sited in another city, perhaps in
London or somewhere in
Italy. By early 2015, the project appeared to have mothballed, and by August of that year, it was finally scrapped.
The site of Harrods Square may see another hotel being built there, but it will not be Harrods Hotel. More to come and will be updated here once the new name is available.
