Jalan Melayu, Kuala Lumpur (15 June, 2017)
Jalan Melayu is a minor road in downtown
Kuala Lumpur. Almost an alleyway, it connects
Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman to
Jalan Tun Perak. The stretch between
Jalan Masjid India and Lorong Tuanku Abdul Rahman also has a pedestrian canopy.
As with nearby Jalan Tun Perak, Jalan Melayu once had a Malay settlement. For that reason, it was originally known as Malay Street. According to the Kuala Lumpur Street Name book
1, there was once a Malay school at the junction of Jalan Melayu and Jalan Masjid India built in 1888. It was possibly the first Malay school in
Kuala Lumpur.
