The start of Jalan Sungai Besi, at its junction with Jalan Pudu and Jalan Pasar (8 July, 2016)
Jalan Sungai Besi is one of the major roads in
Kuala Lumpur. What began as a laterite path to the tin mines has today developed into a major urban thoroughfare. It was originally called Sungei Besi Road.
In its present incarnation, Jalan Sungai Besi starts at
Pudu, at the intersection with
Jalan Pudu, beyond which lies
Jalan Pasar. It meets
Jalan Yew and
Jalan Loke Yew at a multi-tier interchange.
In the ever changing cityscape of Kuala Lumpur, parts of Jalan Sungai Besi has been widened, lengthened and transformed, that it is often difficult to trace the original road. At the junction with
Jalan Istana, there is a link of the
Sungai Besi Expressway. Jalan Sungai Besi continues bearing south from there, to eventually end at the Sungai Besi Toll Plaza, the starting point of the
Kuala Lumpur-Seremban Expressway.
Among the roads that meet Jalan Sungai Besi include Jalan San Peng, Jalan Kalong, Jalan Foss, Jalan Gelang, Lorong Loke Yew, Jalan Satu and Jalan Dua. Sights and buildings along the way include Wisma SCA, Wisma Naza, Champion Club, Wisma Mahamewah, Wisma Yeoh Tiong Tee, Phoenix Hotel, Southgate Commercial Centre, Wisma Mah Sing, Volvo Showroom, Proton Service Centre and the Sungai Besi Air Base, housing the Royal Malaysian Air Force Museum.

Jalan Istana Interchange
Jalan Sungai Besi meets Jalan Istana (bearing west) and a branch of the Sungai Besi Expressway aka Lebuhraya Besraya (bearing east).
Sungai Besi Toll Plaza
This is where Jalan Sungai Besi ends and the
Kuala Lumpur-Seremban Expressway begins. One of the exits of the
SMART Tunnel comes out here (you can see it on the right side of the Google Street View), but not connected to Jalan Sungai Besi.
