Kuala Lumpur City Gallery (GPS: 3.14713, 101.69322) is a newly opened tourist attraction situated right in the heart of Dataran Merdeka (Independence Square). It occupies the building which was formerly the Government Printing Press next to the Kuala Lumpur Library, fronting one of the world's tallest flag poles.

The gallery showcases art and history related to the city. Among the exhibits include information on the founding of Kuala Lumpur in the second half of the 19th century, its role as a center for tin mining in the Klang Valley, and its emergence as the biggest city in the country.
There is an old wing and a new annex. The Government Printer, J Russell, helped the Public Works Department architects in designing the ideal printing office which includes a structural support system of cast iron columns and trusses. This is necessary to allow for open interior to house the large printing press machines.

The style of the Government Printing Office contrasts with that of the other government buildings. The outer wall is of exposed bricks with plastered columns. The upper parts of the ground floor windows are semi-circular and decorated with keystones. Canopy roofs were added to the building in the 1940s and retained in the last renovation, in 1986, when the building was then converted to house the Kuala Lumpur Memorial Library.
A highlight of the Kuala Lumpur City Gallery is a detailed miniature of Kuala Lumpur's heritage enclave, showing Dataran Merdeka and Chinatown. By end of January 2012, a 40ft by 50ft scaled model of Greater Kuala Lumpur will be on display.
Housed within the Kuala Lumpur City Gallery is an information centre that provides ready help to visitors and tourists. The Tourism Unit of KL City Hall will also start its operations here soon. Also occupying a niche at the gallery is ARCH KUALA LUMPUR, a gift shop with one of the largest collection of gifts celebration Malaysia and especially Kuala Lumpur.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
