The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur (GPS: 3.13924, 101.69206) is a 5-star hotel on Jalan Sultan Hishamuddin in Kuala Lumpur. It is one of the hotels within the Autograph Collection of Marriott International. One of the most luxurious hotels in the city, it occupies a choice location right across from the Kuala Lumpur Railway Station. Originally known as Hotel Majestic (the original signage is still visible in front of the old wing), it first opened in 1932. The hotel was designed by the Dutch architectural firm of Keys and Dowdeswell for the Trustees of the Estate of Loke Wan Tho, youngest son of Loke Yew. In the early days, it was the largest and grandest hotel in Kuala Lumpur. It was also one of the first hotels in the country to fit a television set in the guestrooms.
By the 1970s, the original Hotel Majestic was losing out to other bigger and grander hotels. Gazetted as a heritage building, it was turned into the National Art Gallery, which occupied it from 1984 until 1998, when YTL Hotels took over the property, and began a faithful restoration, to return it to its original opulence and splendour. In order to usher the hotel into the present age, YTL Hotels preserves the original building - now known as the Majestic Wing - and added a 15-storey Tower Wing, increasing the room capacity of the hotel from the original 47 guest rooms to 300.
After a period of meticulous restoration, the all-new Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur finally opened its doors to the public in December, 2012. On 1 January, 2017, it enters another exciting new chapter as being the first hotel in Malaysia to be added to Marriott International's prestigious Autograph Collection, a collection of historic properties offering modern luxuries and stylish amenities.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
