Rubber Research Institute of Malaya Building, Kuala Lumpur (11 July, 2016)
Rubber Research Institute of Malaya Building (GPS: 3.16076, 101.7333) is a historic building at 260, Jalan Ampang, in Kuala Lumpur. It was built for RRIM, now known as the Rubber Research Institute of Malaysia. Construction began on 22 April, 1936, following the laying of the foundation stone by Sultan Sir Alaeddin Sulaiman Shah, the fifth Sultan of Selangor. The building was designed in the Art Deco style by Steen Sehested and Arthur Oakley Coltman, and was constructed by Bong Sin.
The Rubber Research Institute of Malaya building was completed and occupied on 14 May, 1937. It was built at a cost of M$200,000. It is a single storey building with exposed bricks forming a significant portion of its façade. A prominent feature of the design are the pairs of mullions, in between the window openings.
