W Kuala Lumpur (GPS: 3.15881, 101.70965) is an upscale hotel in downtown Kuala Lumpur. It is located on Jalan Ampang, at the junction with Jalan P. Ramlee, across from KLCC, on the site that was formerly Aurora Tower. It occupies ten levels of a new 55-storey skyscraper which will also house high-end condominium units called Tropicana Residences KLCC. The hotel occupies levels 8 to 24 and has a total of 400 rooms. At time of writing (June 2017), the building has been topped off, and the hotel is expected to open for business on 31 March, 2018.

W Kuala Lumpur occupies the site of the former Bok House1, a double-storey bungalow built in 1929 by Cycle & Carriage founder, Chua Cheng Bok. In 1958, the mansion housed Le Coq d'Or restaurant, a place for fine dining during its time. The 1.28-acre changed hands, and was purchased by property developer Dijaya Corp Bhd for RM123 million, or RM2,200 per square foot. Dijaya Corp Bhd was renamed Tropicana Corp in July 2008.

About this website

Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.

While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.

To get to know me better, do follow me on Facebook!
