Chee Mansion (GPS: 2.19631, 102.24511), also called Chee Yam Chuan Temple, is a palatial mansion at No. 117
Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock in Malacca. The namesake, Chee Swee Cheng 徐垂青, is often called Baba Chee as he is the sixth generation to be born in the Malay peninsula. His family is also one of the oldest in Malacca. By the time Chee Swee Cheng was born on 13 December, 1866, his family has become one of the richest in town, with business enterprises extending far and wide. Chee who became a tycoon in his own right, served as the first chairman of the Overseas Chinese Banking Corporation, OCBC.
Chee Swee Cheng is a Hokkien. His forefather Chee Soo Sum (1689-1752) left Zhangzhou prefecture in Fujian Province, China to seek his fortune in Malacca
1. This followed the collapse of the Ming Dynasty to the Manchus, which resulted in mass departure of refugees to Southeast Asia, taking advantage of the Hokkien's maritime knowledge.
