Zoo Melaka (GPS: 2.27653, 102.2989), or
Malacca Zoo, is a zoological garden in
Ayer Keroh, Malacca. Established in 1963, it is the second-biggest
zoo in Malaysia after Zoo Negara, covering an area of 20 hectares. The zoo has a total of 1,200 animals from over two hundred species.
Zoo Melaka began as a rescue base for illegally captured wildlife. It is managed by the Department of Wildlife and National Parks, PERHILITAN. Its role has allowed it to grow to outstrip
Taiping Zoo. It was the first zoo to exhibit the Sumatran rhinoceros. The zoo has also managed to raise the Malayan Tiger in captivity. So far, over 40 Malayan tiger cubs have been raised at Zoo Melaka.
Attractions at Zoo Melaka includes the mini safari, the multi-animal show, the elephant show, elephant and horse rides and the Night Zoo.
