Kota Lukut (17 September, 2016)
Kota Lukut (GPS: 2.5681, 101.82312) or Fort Lukut is a historical fort in the town of
Lukut in
Negri Sembilan. It was built by
Raja Jumaat to protect his tin interest. Raja Jumaat ibni Raja Jaafar is a prince from the Riau archipelago who settled in the area in the early 19th century, and eventually became the richest tin mining entrepreneur in Selangor.
Today the fort has been converted into a museum explaining the history of tin mining in the 19th century. The muzium was officially opened on 9 April 1999 by the then Menteri Besar of Negri Sembilan, Tan Sri Isa Abdul Samad.
My visit to Kota Lukut
I have been to Kota Lukut twice. The first time was on 29 December, 2006, and the second time was ten years later, on 17 September, 2016. I still remember the first time we arrived at the place, there was a rude (and racist) caretaker who scolded me to taking photographs without his permission. Nothing of that sort happened on my second visit, and I had quite a pleasant visit the second time around, when I had the chance to explore the ruins and take all the photographs I want of the place.
