Cameron Highlands Resort (GPS: 4.48779, 101.37878) is a luxury resort in
Cameron Highlands. At time of writing (May 2016), it is the only 5-star resort in Cameron Highlands. The hotel has been around since the 1950s, when it was originally called the Cameron Highlands Hotel. It is located on the main road, Federal Route 5, in
Tanah Rata, about 2 kilometers north of Tanah Rata town centre. Today the hotel is owned and managed by YTL Hotels under its
YTL Classic Hotels line.
Guestrooms at Cameron Highlands Resort are furnished in teak with fabric from Jim Thompson. Main beds on guestrooms are four-poster beds. Room types include the Deluxe Room, the Two-Bedroom Suite, the Junior Suite, the Cameron Suite and the Jim Thompson Suite. At time of writing, prices offers 56 guestrooms priced from (as of May 2016) RM460 per night upwards.
Facilities at Cameron Highlands Resort include a spa offering a wide range of treatments and therapies; a grand ballroom that can accommodated 180 seated diners or 300 standing-room guests, meeting rooms for conferences and seminars; reading room with leather couches and fire place; the Highland Bar with a wide selection of whiskies, cocktails, other beverages and a snooker table; and the Jim Thompson Boutique with a wide range of Jim Thompson silk and other fabrics, gifts, accessories and specially tailored clothing.
Cameron Highlands Resort is located at the foot of the mountain on which perches
Moonlight Bungalow, the cottage in which Jim Thompson stayed before he disappeared. The resort often organizes the two-hour Jim Thompson Mystery Trail, a walking trail into the forest within the vicinity of the resort. As of May 2016, the walking trail is head at 9:00 am and 3:00 pm daily, when weather permits, and is complementary for guests of the resort only.
