Chapel of Our Lady of Mount Carmel (GPS: 4.46924, 101.37243) is a Roman Catholic chapel in
Tanah Rata, Cameron Highlands. It is part of the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur.
The Chapel of Our Lady of Mount Carmel was established in 1935. It was established by French Catholic priests who had intended on setting up a Catholic retreat in Cameron Highlands
1. In 1933 two Catholic priests namely Fathers Perrissoud and Becheras did an exploration of the area. They were followed by other priests who all came to the agreement that Tanah Rata would be the ideal site.
Father Perrissoud was given the responsibility of undertaking the project. In 1935, a Catholic property by the name of Sanatorium was built there as a "Rest or Holiday" House for Catholic priests. A chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Mount Carmel was established, and it grew believers who were farm workers.
