Time Tunnel Museum, Cameron Highlands (1 May, 2016)


Time Tunnel (GPS: 4.49715, 101.39528) is a memorabilia museum in Cameron Highlands, Pahang. It is located along the main road in Brinchang. Established by Mr See Kok Shan in 2007, the Time Tunnel museum takes you back in time to show you how Cameron Highlands was like in the past.

Entering the museum, the first gallery of Time Tunnel offers insights into the lives of the Orang Asli. We get to see the various tools that the Orang Asli use, as well as their handicrafts.

We see old photographs of places like Brinchang and Tanah Rata, and learn about the disappearance of Jim Thompson, the Silk King of Thailand. We are even shown the house where Jim Thompson was staying, on the day he went for a walk, and never came back.

The history section of the Time Tunnel appears a bit jumbled up, without a coherent thread or theme. Nevertheless I have to accept it as part of providing snapshots of various significant events in history, and showing whatever is available.

The Time Tunnel is more than just a local museum. It is also memorabilia museum, with an impressive collection of collectibles from the past. Such items would "register" with people aged forty or fifty and above, who are probably contemporaries to Mr Saw. It seems that Mr Saw never threw anything away, but continues to accumulate things which people would have otherwise considered junk. I am so amazed by his collection. As I am also 50 years old when I visited the museum of 2 May 2016, and will be 51 years old on 15 May, I can relate to all the items that Mr Saw has accumulated. My wife and I had a good laugh looking at things which brought back childhood memories. Mr Saw even had a couple of permanent wave machines that perm parlours used. I haven't seen these for quite a while.

My favourite part of Time Tunnel is the recreation of a kitchen. It looks like the kitchen of a coffee shop, with coffee cups neatly hanging on the racks, boiler, strainer, even two eggs on a dish! Oh, and if you look carefully, there are pieces of bread on a plate. I tell you, it's completely precious!

My wife and I spent quite a long while surveying and observing the various items in this cavernous museum. There are just so many things that meet the eye. It's not a place to rush through - you do that, and you'd see nothing. But if you go through the museum slowly, bit by bit, you will make many serendipitous discoveries that help you relive your childhood.

On my visit to Ipoh on 1 November 2022, I came across another Time Tunnel Museum there. It is owned by the same person.

The Coffee Shop Kitchen, Time Tunnel Museum

One of my favourite section in the Time Tunnel Museum is the life-size walk-in coffee shop kitchen. This realistic exhibit recreated the look and feel of a traditional coffee shop kitchen. You can spend a long time here, observing every item, mersmerized by the details.

Visitor Information

The Time Tunnel is open daily from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. Admission fee, as of May 2016, is RM6.00 per adult and RM4.00 per child.
