The Pan Borneo Highway is a federal road that links Sarawak to Sabah, through Brunei. Construction began in 1932, when Sabah and Sarawak joined the federation of Malaysia. It is planned for a total length of 1048 kilometers, and is said to be 95% completed. When completed, the Pan Borneo Highway will be 2,083 km (1,294 mi) in length.

The route of the Pan Borneo Highway starts at Sematan on the western end of Sarawak, and pass through Lundu, Kuching, Serian, Sri Aman, Sarikei, Sibu, Bintulu, Miri, enters Brunei, Kuala Belait, Lumut, Bandar Seri Begawan, reenters Sarawak, Limbang, Lawas, enters Sabah, Sindumin, Sipitang, Weston, Beaufort, Papar, Kota Kinabalu, Kota Belud, Sandakan, Lahad Datu, Tawau, to end in Serudong at the border with Kalimantan, Indonesia.

Updates

1 April, 2015: The Star reports Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak launching the construction and upgrading of the Sarawak portion of the Pan Borneo Highway. This is a 1,076 km stretch which is estimated to cost RM27 billion. The first phase of this highway, to be called Pan Borneo Sarawak, will cost RM15 billion. It is scheduled to be completed in early 2013. The prime minister stated that the highway will be toll free, as there are no alternative roads to the highway.
