The Ipoh Cenotaph (18 September, 2005)
Ipoh Cenotaph (GPS: 4.59756, 101.07428) commemorates those who died in the first and second World Wars. It is one of many cenotaphs erected by the British following the first world war, and you can find them in most of the major towns in Malaya, including Singapore. Following the second World War, amendments were made to the Cenotaph to incorporate a mention of those who died in it as well, and later on, some of these cenotaphs also carry a mention of the Emergency.
The Ipoh Cenotaph is located at Station Square, right in front of the
Ipoh Railway Station. There is a black plastic plate on the Cenotaph (it was originally of brass) with the words, "Memorial to the dead of the two world wars. Sacred to the memory of the men from the state of Perak who fell in the Great War. 1914-1918. And those who died in the 1939-45 war."

The Ipoh Cenotaph originally had four brass plates, one on each side, listing out the names of soldiers from Perak who died during World War I. One of these faces list the names of soldiers from the Perak State Guides. In 1985 all but the main plate was removed, but after the main plate was restored, it was installed on a different side, which the other faces now commemorate subsequent wars fought from 1945 to 1960.
