Chua Cheng Bok Building, Ipoh (19 August, 2006)
Chua Cheng Bok Building is a beautiful heritage building at No. 94,
Jalan Sultan Idris Shah (formerly Brewster Road) in Ipoh. It was built in the 1930's in the Art Deco style. The original owner, early 20th century tycoon Chua Cheng Bok, was the founder of the popular auto firm Cycle & Carriage, which opened its first branch in Ipoh in 1906. He was also the builder to the
Coliseum and Bok House in Kuala Lumpur.
During the post-war years, Chua Cheng Bok Building housed several British and American trading companies including William Jacks, AIA, United Press Association and Sime Darby.
Today a Malay restaurant, Restoran Semenanjung, occupies the ground floor of the historical building. Other than that, the rest of the building appears to be vacant.
