Ipoh makes a good base for exploring Perak. You can make day trips from Ipoh to the surrounding towns, and be back to the comfort of your hotel before the day is done. Being the biggest town (and the only one with city status) in Perak, Ipoh has all the creature comforts for the weary traveller.

The following are places you can visit by car within a day from Ipoh:

    Royal town where the Sultan of Perak resides.

    Coastal town famous for fish products.

    Most famous caves in Perak.

    Hot spring resort in Sungkai, Perak, with mineral-rich waters that helps with a variety of ailments.
  21. Beruas Museum
    Museum in the town where artifacts of an obscure ancient Hindu kingdom have been discovered.
  22. Royal Belum State Park
    One of the most pristine protected forest in Malaysia.
  23. Gunung Besout Forest Reserve
    Protected forest in southern Perak.
