Ipoh makes a good base for exploring Perak. You can make day trips from Ipoh to the surrounding towns, and be back to the comfort of your hotel before the day is done. Being the biggest town (and the only one with city status) in Perak, Ipoh has all the creature comforts for the weary traveller.

    Site in northern Perak with Paleolithic sites.
  9. Kuala Sepetang
    Fishing village with the biggest mangrove forest in Malaysia.
  10. Kuala Gula
    Fishing village on the coast of Perak.
  11. Bukit Merah Lake Town
    Recreational theme park in the middle of a lake.
  12. Lost World of Tambun
    Water theme park in Tambun, a suburb of Ipoh.
  13. Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta
    First mental hospital in Malaysia located in Tanjung Rambutan.
  14. Ulu Kinta Recreational Forest
    Recreational forest in Tanjung Rambutan.
  15. Bota Kanan Tuntung River Terrapin Centre
    Site of River Terrapin Breeding Centre.
  16. Teluk Intan
    Town famous for its leaning tower.
  17. Pasir Salak
    Site where J.W.W. Birch, the first Resident of Perak, was murdered.
  18. Tanjung Tualang Tin Dredge
    The heritage tin dredge that is preserved for posterity.
  19. Sungkai Deer Farm
    Wildlife conservation centre managed by the wildlife department, for the breeding of deer, pheasants and gaur.
  20. Sungai Klah Hot Springs
    Hot spring resort in Sungkai, Perak, with mineral-rich waters that helps with a variety of ailments.
  21. Beruas Museum
    Museum in the town where artifacts of an obscure ancient Hindu kingdom have been discovered.
  22. Royal Belum State Park
    One of the most pristine protected forest in Malaysia.
  23. Gunung Besout Forest Reserve
    Protected forest in southern Perak.
