Dewan Bandaran Ipoh (GPS: 4.59723, 101.07492) is a historic building in the heart of Ipoh, Perak. This is the Ipoh City Hall, although the name translates as Ipoh Town Hall, even though the town received city status in 1988. Dewan Bandaran Ipoh is directly across from the Ipoh Railway Station, on Jalan Panglima Bukit Gantang Wahab (formerly Club Road).
Dewan Bandaran Ipoh building was designed by colonial government architect A.B. Hubback, who also designed the Ipoh Railway Station along with many of the now historic buildings in Kuala Lumpur. Construction of Dewan Bandaran began in 1914, but due to interruption to material supply brought about by World War I, the building was only completed in 1916. The building has a rusticated façade which contributes to its elegance.
The Ipoh Post Office used to occupy the eastern end of the Dewan Bandaran Building. For that reason, the road that ran between Club Road and Jalan Sultan Yusuf was known as Post Office Road (it is now called Jalan Dato Sagor). For many years, the Ipoh Town Hall building also served as the district police headquarters, which has since moved into its own complex further south.
Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
