Gurdwara Sahib Railway Ipoh (GPS: 4.5984, 101.07251) is a Sikh gurdwara in Ipoh, Perak. It is located on Persiaran Tun Perak, behind the Ipoh Railway Station. It was established in the early 1930s by the Sikh community, many of whom were employed by the railway and the police.
On 1 January, 1935, the Federated Malay States Railway General Manager gave a permit for temporary occupation to the Sikh community to establish their gurdwara on a piece of land belonging to the railway, with a token rental of $1.00 per year. This is a different site from the location of the present gurdwara.
The FMS Railway requested back the land in 1957, and as an alternative, provided the Sikhs another piece of land measuring 80 ft by 80 ft, at Persiaran Tun Perak. The foundation stone for the building was laid in 1958, and the completed building was officially opened by the railway Sikh Sangat in 1959. It was built at a cost of M$30,000.
Today the Gurdwara Sahib Railway Ipoh is the only gurdwara of its kind in the country. It continues to be managed by the Sikhs who have retired from serving the railway.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
