Lorong Market, Ipoh (3 May, 2016)
Lorong Market, or
Market Lane, is an alley in the
Old Town of Ipoh. It connects
Jalan Bijeh Timah to
Jalan Sultan Yusuf. The lane is also intersected by
Jalan Bandar Timah.
Lorong Market is known in Chinese as 三奶巷 (Mandarin Pinyin: Sān Nǎi Xiàng, Cantonese Jyutping: Saam1 Naai5 Hong6) meaning the third wife's lane. This is where the rich men of old in Ipoh housed their third wife, and that rich man in question is quite likely Yau Tet Shin, the Chinese tin miner who developed Ipoh New Town.
