Lou Wong Beansprout Chicken, Ipoh (30 September 2022)
Lou Wong Ipoh Bean Sprout Chicken 老黄芽菜鸡沙河粉 (GPS: 4.59397, 101.08421) is the most famous restaurant selling bean-sprout chicken, or Nga Choy Kai, in Ipoh, Perak. It is located at the junction of Jalan Yau Tet Shin and Jalan Dato Tahwil Azar (Osborne Street) in the Ipoh New Town (new only by name, this part of town has been around since 1907). It is one of the two famous bean sprout chicken restaurants in Ipoh, with the other being Ong Kee.
The Bean Sprout Chicken meal comprises a place of chicken, a plate of blanched bean sprouts, and a bowl of hor fun (flat rice noodles or "Chinese lasagna"). The speciality of the meal is the smoothness of the hor fun and the crunchiness and taste of the bean sprout. According to local explanation, the taste is the result of the alkaline spring water from the limestone hills in Ipoh used in the making of the hor fun and the growing of the bean sprouts.
In fact, bean sprout chicken is a salty, oily meal rich in MSG. It is really better for the tongue than for the body.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
