Masjid Muhammadiah (Chinese Mosque), Ipoh (9 November, 2015)
Masjid Muhammadiah (GPS: 4.64954, 101.10728) is a mosque in Taman Tasek Jaya, in Ipoh, Perak. The mosque is located at Jalan Musim Bunga off Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah.
Masjid Muhammadiah is popularly known as Masjid Cina Ipoh or Ipoh's Chinese Mosque, due to its architecture, which resembles a Chinese temple or palace. The mosque has red columns and green roof ridges over orange tiles. The minaret is three storeys tall. Unlike mosques of traditional design, it does not have a dome. However, this being a mosque, there are some modification to the design of a Chinese temple. For example, in place of dragons, the mosque spots the crescent moon, and instead of the lotus flower, the hibiscus motif is employed.
Masjid Muhammadiah was planned in around 2008. Construction began on 24 November 2011, and the mosque was completed in July 2013, at a cost of RM4 million. It was used for the first time in August of that year. Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah officiated in its opening on 8 July, 2014. The Sultan, who was the Raja Muda of Perak during the construction, had supported the construction of the mosque
In the beginning, the community of the local kariah or Muslim parish expressed concern over the idea of building the mosque in Chinese architecture. However, a couple of years after it was completed, the mosque has become a local landmark and pride of the community. As a result many non Muslims have also visited the mosque and to enjoy its atmosphere.

Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.
While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
