Muzium Geologi (GPS: 4.59755, 101.11978) is a geology museum within the Department of Mineral and Geoscience Malaysia, or Jabatan Mineral dan Geosains Malaysia. It is located on Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah, which is also Federal Route 1, in Ipoh, Perak.
The Department of Mineral and Geosains Malaysia was established on 1 July, 1999, with the merger of the Department of Geological Survey and Mines Department. The Perak branch is located at off Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah. The Department of Mines traces its history back to the British colonial era, when the colonial government established it in 1874 to regulate tin mining activities, especially in the Kinta Valley. This was followed with the enactment of state mining in 1891, and the enactment of domestic mineral ore in 1893, to prevent tin smuggling.
Muzium Geologi on the grounds of Jabatan Mineral dan Geosains provides visitors with information about rocks, sedimentation, fossilisation, and other matters related to geology. This helps explain the availability of tin ore which was once abundant in the Kinta Valley.
Muzium Geologi is open Mondays to Fridays from 8:00am to 5:00pm.

Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.
While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
