Nam Thean Tong (GPS: 4.56589, 101.11441) is a cave temple in Ipoh, Perak. It is located off Jalan Raja Dr Nazrin Shah (formerly Jalan Gopeng). The temple is built into the face of the limestone cliff, and is located between two other cave temples, Sam Poh Tong and Ling Sen Tong. Of the three, it is possibly the most popular.
Nam Thean Tong was established in 1867 by a Chinese monk, Kuong San Teik. From a small cliff shrine, Nam Thean Tong has grown into a full-fledged temple, completed with entrance arch. The name Nam Thean Tong means "Temple of the Southern Sky". In front of the temple is a pond with a zig-zag bridge as wll as a half-crescent bridge.
How to reach Nam Thean Tong
Exit the North South Expressway Northern Route (E1) at the Ipoh South Interchange. Coming out of the expressway, turn left and head south along Jalan Tasek (Federal Route 1). You will pass Tesco and Kinta City Shopping Centre (Jusco) on your left. Just continue along Jalan Tasek, which is called Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah beyond the junction of Persiaran Medan Ipoh.
When you reach a flyover interchange, turn left and head southeast along Jalan Raja Dr Nazrin Shah (formerly called Jalan Gopeng). When you see a Petronas petrol station on your left, get ready to turn in to a slip road that takes you to Nam Thean Tong as well as a few other cave temples.

Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.
While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
