Church of St Henry Batu Pahat (12 September, 2016)
St Henry Catholic Church (GPS: 1.84171, 102.93451) is the main place of worship for the Roman Catholic communitty in Batu Pahat. The church is located on Jalan Indah. it has an interesting appearance, particularly its pyramid-shaped hip roof topped with an elevated steeple.
The Catholic faith was brought to Batu Pahat by missionaries of the Paris Foreign Missions Society (Société des Missions étrangères de Paris, usually abbreviated as M.E.P.) in the form of Father Henri Duvelle1 who began mission work in the town in 1925.
Father Duvelle was on a church planting mission, and was credited with having established the Church of St Louis in Kluang, which he named after his brother, Louis Duvelle. In the case of this church, it would seem if Father Duvelle named it after himself, but in fact he named it after his own patron saint, most probably Henry II, Holy Roman Emperor, also known as Saint Henry.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
