The
Ipoh Standard Chartered Bank Building (GPS: 4.59722, 101.07685) is a historical building at 21-27 Jalan Maharaja Lela (formerly Station Road). Built in 1902, it originally housed the Chartered Bank of India, Australia and China Ltd. The bank acted as the financial institution for the tin mining industry supporting the activities of the Straits Trading Company and the
Eastern Smelting Company.
The Standard Chartered Bank Building was built of reinforced concrete. During the pre-independent days, it housed several British trading houses and accountancy firms.
