Ipoh Tenaga Nasional Building (formerly Perak Hydro Building) (31 January 2006)

The
Tenaga Nasional Building (GPS: 4.59742, 101.07613) is a historic building in Ipoh. It was built in the 1930's and was originally known as the Perak Hydro Building. It belonged to the Perak River Hydro-Electric Company, an entity established in London in 1926. This was the company that built the dam across the Perak River at Chenderoh, north of
Kuala Kangsar.
This was the company responsible for supplying power to the tin mines and tin dredges. Its subsidiary, Kinta Electrical Distribution, was the company that helped to get 63 towns in Perak electrified. The Perak River Hydro-Electric Company was for many decades the biggest power supplier in Peninsular Malaysia, and it is only apt that its former premises is now occupied by the national power supply company.
