Experiencing The Haven Resort Ipoh

The Haven Resort IpohMy wife and I enjoying The Haven Resort Ipoh. (11 August, 2017)

Of the many hotels we have stayed before, The Haven Resort Ipoh stands as among the most outstanding. Embracing the limestone landscape without actually changing it, the resort offers us a unique vacation experience.

Upon our arrival at the resort, we were warmly welcome by Mr Simon Thong, the Marketing Communication Senior Co-ordinator of the resort. Checking-in was smooth. We parked in the multi-storey car park, then transferred our luggage to our room, which is a gorgeous suite. Looking down, directly under us, is the resort's stupendous swimming pool. Shaped like a seahorse, the pool seemed to invite us longingly.

Arriving at our bedroom, we were astonished that the resort has given us a honeymoon welcome. Our bed was strewn with rose petals, and the bathtowels were folded into swans. We had a wonderful time enjoying the bed and the suite amenities. It was very spacious, just like a home in itself. In the living room is a plush coach and settee, with a wide-screen television set. There is also a fully functioning kitchen with refrigerator and microwave oven, and a dining table for us to partake of our meals. We felt completely at home.

That evening, Simon and his colleague Mr Ronald Yeap, hosted us to a lovely dinner. We enjoyed a delicious meal, made even more delicious by the quality ingredients. We had a laksa, Ipoh-style chicken with beansprout (oh, absolutely delicious) and flat noodle or hor fun. As if that's not enough, Simon also ordered a rack of lamb for us to try, and we finished off the meal with the chef's own cheesecake. My wife and I enjoyed our dinner very much, even though we were both so full after that.

The next morning, we woke up early, just in time to see the morning mist unfurl over the Kinta Valley, and jagged limestone peaks punctuated out of the cotton blanket. We went for a walk in the grounds of The Haven. The place was meticulously kept. Since it was still very early in the morning, nobody was in the swimming pool yet. Beyond the pool, the lake was a picture of tranquility. The surrounding karst outcrops were mirrored on its surface.

During our short walk around the lake, we came upon quite a lot of local wildlife, including forest monkeys and tortoise. Many of the trees were carefully labelled. This helps us better appreciate the surrounding flora.

We couldn't wait any longer, and decided to go for a swim in The Haven's enormous swimming pool. The pool was so big, it was like a blue ocean that just about separates it from the lake beyond. It has various water features include jetstreams and bubblejet water beds. Not only that, I simply have to mention what a fantastic piece of architecture the pool was. You see, it has a glass wall, affording underwater views of the lake beyond. And as such, if you are outside the pool, you can see the people in it, right through the glass.

Since this was our vacation in Ipoh, we took the opportunity to make a road trip visiting various places in the surroundings. We visited Kellie's Castle, Gaharu Tea Valley and Gopeng Museum.

Our three days and two nights at The Haven Resort Ipoh passed faster than we could possibly imagine, and before long, it was time for us to bid our farewell to Mr Simon Thong and all the friendly staff of the resort. I couldn't wait to return to Penang, to tell my friends back home what I wonderful vacation I had over here.

About this website

Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.

While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
