Lata Perahu, Kuala Kangsar District, Perak (6 September, 2015)
Lata Perahu (GPS: 4.897794, 100.902404) is a waterfall in Perak. It is located in Kampung Chuar, in the Kuala Kangsar District. The GPS coordinates I provide above refers to the junction where you turn in to the kampung road which leads to the waterfall.
I visited Lata Perahu with my wife on 6 September, 2015. Although I enjoy seeing the waterfall, this will be my first and last trip to visit it, and I wouldn't want to repeat the journey.
Lata Perahu Waterfall cascading down the rocks into the river (6 September, 2015)
Lata Perahu is located deep in the jungle. To get there, I had to drive through a kampung road. At one point, the road goes steeply up the hill. I had to use the first gear on my car to go up that slope. Moreover, the road was muddy in places, and so narrow that cars can only pass through in one direction. Although the road was tarred all the way, in places the tar has cracked, so I had to drive carefully to avoid hitting a bump. Beside the road is a deep ravine, and the forest trees grew to hug the roadside. If another car had come down that road, I would have had to reverse all the way down to let it pass. So, for that reason, having visited Lata Perahu once is good enough!
Looking back towards the kampung road that leads up to Lata Perahu, when we have arrived and got down. (6 September, 2015)
At the end of the kampung road is an area where you can park your car. When we got there, there was a motorcycle parked beside a grove of bamboo. Beyond that, we could hear the sound of the river. Then we heard the voices of youngsters. They turn out to be village boys who had come up to Lata Perahu on their motorcycles. They were just leaving as we arrived.
The Lata Perahu waterfall empties into a pool. From the pool, it flows down the slopes, cascading over huge boulders. Due to the difficulty to reach the place, there were no other visitors. My wife and I had a shot together beside the waterfall. It was quite cooling, and unlike some of the hutan lipur (recreational forest) that I have visited, very few mosquitoes.

This is in front of where we parked our car. As you can see, Lata Perahu is in the middle of the jungle. (6 September, 2015)

Below I provide you information, should you wish to pay a visit to Lata Perahu yourself.
To reach Lata Perahu, turn left at the junction into the kampung. The road is called Jalan Lata Perahu. Continue up the kampung road (at one point, it makes a right turn). It goes steeply up a slope and continue on for a while before arriving at the waterfall. Note that the GPS coordinates that I provide refers to the turning in.
Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.
While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
