Pangkor Laut (GPS: 4.19904, 100.54656) is an island to the west of Pulau Pangkor, in Perak. It is solely occupied by the luxurious Pangkor Laut Resort. The late Italian opera singer Luciano Pavarotti visited the island in 1994, promptly declaring it a paradise. This cemented the reputation of the resort on the international scene. Pangkor Laut Resort was also voted "Number One in the World" by travel magazine Condé Nast.
Accommodation at Pangkor Laut Resort
Despite it being synonymous with the island itself, Pangkor Laut Resort takes up only a small portion of the island, the rest of which is left untouched. Accommodation at Pangkor Laut Resort comprises the Villas and the Estates.
There are various types of Villas to choose from: Garden Villas, Hill Villas, Beach Villa, and Spa Villas. The Garden and Hill villas are built on the hill slopes surrounded by gardens, while the Beach and Spa villas are built on stilts above the sea. On top of that, there are the Suria Suite, Purnama Suite, and largest of them all, the Pavarotti Suite.
The Estates are gorgeous private residences - eight in total - located on the northern part of Pangkor Laut. These offer between one to four bedrooms, with separate pavilions for living quarters and dining area. Each residence comes with private swimming pool and lovely views, while nestled in the green forest.
Dining at Pangkor Laut Resort
There are a few dining outlets at the resort. Feast Village is the main dining outlet. It is open for breakfast. At other times, the Feast Village offers chef's table. Dinner features a wide selection of Malay cuisine.
Fisherman's Cove offers a more serene dining experience. A dress code of resort smart casual is observed here, and the restaurant admits only guest aged 16 and above.
The Chinese restaurant at Pangkor Laut Resort is Uncle Lim's Kitchen. It specialises in Nyonya and Hockchew cuisine, with dishes inspired by locally available ingredients.
The chill-out lounge at Pangkor Laut Resort is the Royal Bay Beach Club, which overlooks the resort's infinity pool and its waterborne villas.
Those seeking a wide selection of beverages should head for Chapman's Bar. Named after Freddie Spencer Chapman, a British World War II hero who escaped the Japanese in the submarine HMS Statesman, the bar commemorates Pangkor's wartime past.
On top of it all, there is also Jamu Bar, which is a salad bar serving healthy salads and specialty drinks. It occupies an open pavilion with views of the pool and terraces.
Spa Village Pangkor Laut
Opened by Luciano Pavarotti in 2002, the Spa Village has become a signature addition to Pangkor Laut Resort. It draws on rejuvenation practises from China, Japan, India, Thailand, Bali and Malaysia. There are eight treatment pavilions and villas.
Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.
While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
