SRJK (C) Uk Dih (GPS: 4.18698, 100.70406) is a Chinese national-type primary school in Sitiawan, Perak. It holds the distinction of being the first and oldest Chinese school in the Manjung District, or the Dindings. The school was established by the Fuzhou refugees who fled China in the early 20th century following upheavals brought on by the Boxer Rebellion. They resettled in Koh Village, or Kampung Koh, and from there, started a school for the education of their children.
Uk Dih School began as a primary school, but in 1933, it also founded a secondary school, so that pupils could continue their studies into secondary level. This was however shortlived, and in 1936, the Uk Dih Secondary School merged with Kuok Ming School, Chung Cheng School and Min Te School to form the Nan Hwa High School, precursor of present-day SMJK Nan Hwa.
Uk Dih School continued to focus on imparting primary education. With increase in its pupils, the school embarked on an expansion plan in 1941, but this was interrupted by the Second World War. The half-completed building was demolished by the Japanese troops. The school was in recess until the war was over, and classes resumed thereafter.
Uk Dih School became a government aided school in 1957. Its parents-teachers association (PTA) was founded in 1974. The school PTA proposed the establishment of a building fund to build the school hall
Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
