Sungai Manjung is one of the major rivers in Perak. It got its name from the
district of Manjung, formerly known as Dinding. As such, the river is also called the Dinding River or Sungai Dinding. Compared to
Sungai Perak, Sungai Manjung is quite short. However it is very wide for much of its course.
Sungai Manjung is formed when two of its major tributaries converge. These are Sungai Segari and Sungai Raja Hitam. These two are quite big rivers in their own right, and each has its own system of tributaries. Flowing southward, Sungai Manjung receives other rivers into its course, among them Sungai Siah Lip, Sungai Gapis, Sungai Pasu, Sungai Ayer Tawar, Sungai Batu Undan, Sungai Sitiawan and the two Lumut rivers, Sungai Lumut Kiri and Sungai Lumut Kanan.
Throughout its course, there is only one bridge crossing it, which is,
Jambatan Raja Permaisuri Bainun, which holds the distinction as being the longest river bridge in the country.
