Gurdwara Sahib Tanjung Malim

Gurdwara Sahib Tanjung Malim (GPS: 3.69342, 101.52432) is the place of worship for Tanjung Malim's Sikh community. It is a two-storey building on the main road of the town. The history1 of the gurdwara can be traced back to the 1920s, though exactly when it was built is not known. The Sikhs in Tanjung Malim made a living as dairy farmers as well as bullock cart drivers. That early gurdwara, which was built of wooden planks, was demolished in 1931.

To replace the demolished building, the Sikhs of Tanjung Malim pooled their resources to purchase a 2-acre piece of land, for Straits Dollars $750. The land was on a low ground and was probably prone to flooding, so the members had to bring in earth and stones to fill up the ground. They built their gurdwara which stood on concrete stilts. This building lasted until 2003, when it was demolished for the construction of the present Gurdwara Sahib.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
