Kipandi Butterfly Park (GPS: 5.8713, 116.25028) is about 36 km outside Kota Kinabalu, at Kampung Kipandi, along the Penampang-Tambunan road. The park is located at an elevation of 700 meters on the Crocker Range. It has over 100 species of butterflies including the Rajah Brooke's Birding (Triodes brookiana), the Golden Birding (Troides amphrysus) and the Peacock's Swallow Tails (Papilio karna). In addition, there is an insectarium where visitors can admire over 800 butterfly specimens and 1800 species of beetles, including many which are endemic to the Crocker Range.
Kipandi Butterfly Park is open daily from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. The best time to view butterflies is during the morning.
Getting there
Take the long distance buses from the bus station at Merdeka Field in Kota Kinabalu to Tambunan or Keningau to reach the park. Bus fare is RM20-25 per person.
