North Borneo Railway is a steam train that runs from Tanjung Aru to Tenom, passing through the Padas Gorge. (By the way, when I am writing this, the train in temporarily out of service, but I hope by the time this information reaches you, the service is on again). This is a remnant of the railway service that began as far back as 1880.
The Norlth Borneo Railway is operated by Sutera Harbour Resort in joint-venture with the Sabah State Railway Department. It uses a 1954 British Vulcan Steam Locomotive.
Note: travelling by North Borneo Railway is like taking the Orient Express. At 80 sen per kilometer, it is a luxurious way to travel. That same route from Tanjung Aru to Tenom can also be made by the regular train from the Sabah State Railway Department, where first class fare goes for just 17 sen per kilometer. Hence, a Tanjung Aru - Tenom tour on First Class Coach costs RM22.80 wheras on the Heritage Tour, it will be RM50 per person.

About this website
Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
