Tun Mustapha Tower, known nowadays as Sabah Foundation Building, is one of the best known landmarks of Kota Kinabalu. It is a thirty-storey tower of steel and glass that houses the Sabah Foundation, or Yayasan Sabah. The building was completed in 1977, and is one of only three buildings built in this concept.
Today the Tun Mustapha Building is still the tallest building in Sabah, and the second tallest in Borneo after the Ministry of Finance Building in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei. Originally known as the Sabah Foundation Building, it was renamed in honour of Tun Datu Mustapha, the first Yang di-Pertua Negeri (governor, 1963-65) and third Chief Minister (1967-75) of Sabah.
Tun Mustapha Tower houses an auditorium, two mini-theatres, an exhibition foyer, a gymnasium, a kindergarten and a research library.
Getting there
Take Bus No. 5A from the bus stations in front of City Hall or Wawasan Plaza. You should have no problem identifying this building (see picture on this page). The bus fare will cost you about RM2.00-RM2.50 one way. The same journey by taxi will set you back RM15-RM20 one way.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
