Sacred Heart Cathedral (GPS: 5.96425, 116.07297) is the Roman Catholic cathedral of the archdiocese of Kota Kinabalu. It is the main parish church of the diocese of the city, with subparishes at the Church of Mary Immaculate and St Simon Church.
The Sacred Heart Cathedral building replaced the older Pro-Cathedral building, which was built in 1953, had to be taken down due to some fault to the roof structure that is compromising on the safety of the building. Although there was a degree of sentimental attachment to the old building, it was decided that it had to go, as the structure presented neither archaeological nor aesthetic value deeming worthy for preservation.
The present cathedral building in stages in 1981. The roof was completed in July, the scaffoldings removed in mid September, the pews were installed in November, the same month that the 130-feet tall bell tower was completed.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
