UMS Aquarium & Marine Museum (GPS: 6.03992, 116.11277) is probably the best marine museum in Borneo. It is located within the campus of Universiti Malaysia Sabah in Sepanggar, in northern Kota Kinabalu. The museum is run by the Borneo Marine Research Institute, which was established in 1995 to generate greater appreciation of marine life, and at the same time conduct studies and research work on conservation on marine resources.
The exhibits include free-standing exhibition tanks, open-water reef exhibition centre, shallow reef exhibition centre, mangrove habitat, marine & maritime museum, diorama of Sipadan deep dive, and interactive information kiosks.
The UMS Aquarium & Marine Museum is open daily except Wednesdays and public holidays from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm and from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm. Entrance fees is RM5 per Malaysian adult and RM10 per non Malaysian adult.
Getting there
Take Bus No. 5A from the city park bus station. Fare is RM1.50. If you go by taxi, expect to pay RM18.00.
