Teck Guan Cocoa Village & Museum, Tawau

Teck Guan Cocoa Village (GPS: 4.2673, 117.8745) is located at Quoin Hill, on the east side of Tawau, about 30 minutes from Tawau Airport or 40 minutes from Tawau town. Opened in 2002, it is one of the new tourist attractions of Tawau. The Cocoa Village is located in the midst of the sprawling cocoa plantation.

Visitors to the Cocoa Village can get to walk around and explore the plantation, getting to know the cocoa trees up close, viewing the pods and flowers. It is advisable to wear long sleeve shirts and to bring along mosquito repellant.

There is also a refreshment kiosk, called the Cocoa House, built at a scenic viewpoint. From here, guests can sip cocoa while enjoying the view of Tawau. The menu includes all types of items made with cocoa, including cocoa noodle, cocoa porridge, even cocoa prawn roll.

In addition to the Teck Guan Cocoa Village, visitors can also go to the Teck Guan Cocoa Museum, opened in 2004, is said to be the only cocoa museum in the country. The museum is located within the premises of Majulah Koko, the cocoa factory also owned by the Teck Guan Group. It is located at Tanjung Batu Laut, on the west side of Tawau (see map). Here, visitors get a history of cocoa plantation in Malaysia. The wall charts show the development of the industry. At the mini auditorium, video screenings provide a 20-minute documentary on cocoa processing. Adjacent to the museum is the cocoa processing plant where visitors can see how the cocoa is processed.

The Teck Guan Cocoa Village is located at a different part of town from the Teck Guan Cocoa Museum. Please contact the Teck Guan Cocoa Village and Teck Guan Cocoa Museum to plan your visit, as they are not able to accept walk-in guests who arrive unannounced.

About this website

Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.

While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
