Belaga (GPS: 2.705, 113.78222) is a town in Sarawak. It is the capital of the Belaga District, which covers an area of 19,403 sq km in the
Kapit Division. It is located in Hulu Rajang, the upper reaches of the
Rajang River, about 120 km from
Kapit and 100 km from the South China Sea. The town is at the confluence of Batang Belaga with the Rajang River. It town has a population of 25,300, according to the 2002 estimate.
Belaga was established in the early 1900's when Chinese traders opened up the settlement as a place for trading with the Orang Ulu of the hinterland.
Today Belaga is regarded as the gateway to Bakun Dam.

Getting there
You can reach Belaga by express boat from Kapit. The journey nonetheless takes 4 1/2 hours. There is also a weekly flight on MASWings connecting
Bintulu with Belaga.
