Loagan Bunut National Park (GPS: 3.77751, 114.22716) is a national park in the Miri Division of Sarawak. It is named after Loagan Bunut, the largest freshwater lake in Sarawak. The lake covers an area of 650 hectares, but dries up entirely once or twice every year.
Loagan Bunut lake is fed by three rivers namely Sungai Bunut, Sungai Tinjar and Sungai Baram. The water level in the lake is dependent on the amount of water flowing in from the three rivers. In around February, and again May or June, there may be totally no water in the lake.
The tribe living around Loagan Bunut are the Berawan people. They practise a unique-form of shift fishing called selambau, which moves to a different site before the stock is depleted. This allows the lake to be stocked with fish even during the annual droughts.
The Loagan Bunut National Park covers an area of 10.7 sq km in the upper reaches of Sungai Bunut where the lake is located. It was gazetted on 1 January 1990, and announced to the public as a national park on 29 August 1991.

About this website
Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.
While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
