Marudi (GPS: 3.70348, 114.52426) is a small town by the northern banks of the Batang Baram in Sarawak, near the border with Brunei. Marudi is located some 100 km from Kuala Baram. It was here that the Brookes built a fort here, named Fort Hose.

Taman Tasik is one of the few recreational places in this town. From the hill top here, you can get a scenic view of the Batang Baram river.

The main road that goes through the town is Jalan Cinema. Everything is within a block or two from this main road. Jalan Merdeka is the road along the riverfront. Visitors to Marudi can continue upriver to visit the longhouses such as those in Long Lama, Long Selaban and Long Moh.

Getting there

MASWings fly to Marudi from Miri five times a day. There are also flights from Marudi to Bario.

Visiting remote places beyond Marudi require a permit from the Pejabat Residen (Tel: 433205, Jalan Kingway, Mon-Fri: 8:00 am - 12:30 pm, 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm, Sat: 8:00 am - 1:00 pm) in Miri. You will need to present your passport and fill up a form with details of your intended visit.

About this website

Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.

While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
