Matu (GPS: 2.69549, 111.47166) is a small town as well as district centre in the
Mukah Division of Sarawak. Until the establishment of Mukah Division, Matu was part of the
Sibu Division. The population as of 2006 stood at 13,000 people. The villagers are mostly Melanau people with the Chinese forming the second largest ethnic group.
